A Study on Effect of Power Card Strategy on the Problem Behaviors of Intercepting Words, Inappropriate Postures, Repetitive & Meaningless Writing during the Class of a Preschooler with Autistic Spectrum Disorder

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the power card strategy on the problem behaviorsof autistic children. For this purpose, one child with autism disorder who is financially supported by a publickindergarten A kindergarten located in G district, Seoul city was selected as a child and a script and apower card for intervention were produced according to the guidelines of the power card production. Theresearch design used a multiple baseline across behavioral design. Data collection was performed using thepartial interval recording method for 10 minutes every session during the entire 30 minute class. The resultsof the study are as follows. First, the problem of word interception problem during the class of children withautistic disorder was significantly reduced through the power card strategy. Second, inadequate postureproblem behaviors during the class of autistic children significantly decreased through the power card strategy.Third, the repetitive and meaningless writing problem behaviors during the class of autistic children decreasedsignificantly by the power card strategy. The results of this study showed that the power card strategy had apositive effect on reducing the problem behaviors of the autistic children and it was effective in reducing theproblem behaviors of children with autism. In addition, the power card strategy can be expected to haveeffects on behavioral interventions with minimum cost and time, and it is possible to take the power card atany time when the child needs it, so internal procedures for positive action are internalized, This is astrategy that allows us to make adjustments
