Aims & Scope

The Journal of Behavior Analysis and Support, published by the Korean Association for Behavior Analysis, is the first leading academic journal in the field of behavior analysis in South Korea. It seeks to promote both the theoretical and practical development of behavior analysis and positive behavior support, with the goal of improving the quality of special education and behavioral interventions. Since its inaugural issue in 2014, the journal has played a pioneering role in advancing research in these fields over the past decade.

The Journal of Behavior Analysis and Support covers a wide range of disabilities, including developmental disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities, as well as research on applied behavior analysis (ABA) and positive behavior support across the entire lifespan, from infancy to adulthood. The journal has ensured that these studies can be applied in various settings, such as homes, schools, and institutions.

Journal of Behavior Analysis and Support strives to achieve the following objectives:

Ⅰ. Globalization and International Networking

• Encouraging International Collaboration: The journal actively promotes the participation of international scholars and researchers to advance the global development of behavior analysis (ABA). It strengthens partnerships with organizations such as the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI), the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), and the Qualified Applied Behavior Analysis Credentialing Board (QABA).
• Pursuing Indexing in International Journals: JBAS aligns its editorial and publication processes with international standards to achieve recognition in global academic indices. By doing so, the journal fosters academic exchanges at international conferences and publishes high-quality research reflecting global trends.
• Involving International Experts: The journal actively includes international researchers as editorial board members and reviewers while supporting multinational collaborative research efforts.

Ⅱ. Enhanced Online Systems and Accessibility

Journal of Behavior Analysis and Support employs the latest technologies to help researchers easily access academic materials. Through the online submission system (https://kaba.jams.or.kr/co/locale.kci?lang=EN) and DOI issuance, it provides a convenient platform for researchers worldwide to access research materials. Additionally, the journal offers academic papers for free via the association’s website, promoting the dissemination of academic achievements and enhancing scholarly accessibility and usability.

Ⅲ. Strengthening Research Ethics

First, we emphasize the importance of research ethics by establishing systematic and detailed ethical guidelines, which are continuously updated. A thorough investigation system for research ethics violations (e.g., preliminary investigation, main investigation, final confirmation) is in place. We strengthen educational and review processes to prevent violations.

Second, we implement research ethics training programs to foster an ethical research environment and enhance the credibility of the journal.

Through academic conferences, researchers share their findings, naturally learn about the importance of research ethics, and reassess their ethical awareness. Research ethics-related sessions, case presentations, and panel discussions provide opportunities to share cases of research misconduct and explore preventive measures and solutions.

By providing up-to-date information on domestic and international research ethics regulations and standards, we assist researchers in conducting their work in alignment with evolving ethical standards.

Additionally, we maintain a rigorous and systematic peer review process to ensure that ethical research practices are upheld.

Ⅳ. Incorporating Diverse Research Topics

Journal Behavior Analysis and Support actively embraces not only traditional research topics in behavior analysis but also a wide range of multifaceted research areas that address the current needs and future demands of society. These include topics such as multicultural perspectives, the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in behavior analysis, positive behavior support applicable across various life stages, and policy research, thereby expanding the potential applications of behavior analysis. Through this, the journal supports future-oriented research that seeks new directions in behavior analysis, with the goal of securing academic leadership in the field.

Ⅴ. Multidisciplinary Approaches

Journal Behavior Analysis and Support expands the scope and depth of research by adopting a multidisciplinary approach centered on behavior analysis and positive behavior support, incorporating fields such as psychology, sociology, education, and neuroscience. Through this, the journal seeks to explore new possibilities for behavior analysis by integrating it with other disciplines, thereby maximizing its academic contributions. By examining the impact of behavior analysis on policies and systems such as special education and special education law, both domestically and internationally, the journal emphasizes its practical value.

Ⅵ. Promoting Academic Excellence

The association actively promotes its historical background and research achievements to domestic and international researchers. Along with the publication of the journal, an annual report is produced to provide an overview of the association's key research accomplishments and academic achievements, helping to highlight the association's academic excellence and encouraging researcher participation.

Based on the research findings published in the journal, domestic and international conferences, workshops, and other events are organized to strengthen communication between researchers and practitioners.

To enhance international accessibility, tables, figures, and appendices within the journal are translated into English, allowing overseas readers to engage with a wide range of research on behavior analysis.
