Best Practice

1. Website

The official website of the journal is www.journal-bas.com. This platform provides comprehensive information about the journal's aims and scope, editorial policies, submission guidelines, peer review process, ethical standards, author instructions, open access policy, and publication ethics. The website is designed to be user-friendly, fully accessible, and regularly maintained to ensure accuracy and professional presentation.

2. Journal Title

The journal bears the unique and clearly identifiable title Journal of Behavior Analysis and Support, which reflects its focus on research in applied behavior analysis (ABA), positive behavior support (PBS), and related fields. The title is not misleading and does not resemble that of other journals in a way that might cause confusion among authors, readers, or indexing services.

3. Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to JBAS undergo a double-blind peer review process through the online platform at https://kaba.jams.or.kr. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least three independent experts in the relevant field. Reviewer identities are concealed from authors, and vice versa, to ensure objectivity and impartiality.

The editorial board selects reviewers based on subject matter expertise and methodological relevance. Review criteria include originality, significance, methodological rigor, clarity of presentation, relevance to the field, and adherence to ethical standards. Based on reviewers’ feedback, the editorial board makes a decision: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, Revise and Resubmit, or Reject. Authors are given an opportunity to respond to reviewer comments and revise accordingly. All revisions are subject to re-evaluation prior to acceptance.

4. Ownership and Management

JBAS is owned, operated, and published by the Korean Association for Behavior Analysis (KABA), a nonprofit academic organization dedicated to the development and dissemination of behavioral science in Korea. KABA is solely responsible for the financial and administrative operations of the journal. Detailed information about KABA’s mission, leadership, and activities is available at https://www.kaba.or.kr.

5. Governing Body and Editorial Board

The editorial board of JBAS consists of distinguished scholars and practitioners in behavior analysis, special education, psychology, and related fields. The board provides oversight for all editorial and peer review activities. The names, affiliations, and contact details of all editorial members are publicly available on the journal website under the “Information” tab. The Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editors, and Advisory Committee maintain editorial independence and are responsible for ensuring the scholarly quality and ethical standards of the journal.

6. Copyright and Licensing

All articles published in JBAS are subject to copyright held by the Korean Association for Behavior Analysis. Upon acceptance, authors are required to sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, transferring certain usage rights to the publisher while retaining the moral rights to their work.

JBAS adopts the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). This license allows others to share, adapt, and redistribute the published work in any medium or format for non-commercial purposes, provided that proper credit is given to the authors and source, and that changes (if any) are indicated.

7. Author Fees

JBAS strives to maintain affordable publishing costs to promote accessibility and author participation.

  • Review Fee: None
  • Publication Fee: KRW 200,000 per article
  • Discounted Fee: KRW 100,000 for executive members of the association
  • Additional fees for exceeding page limits or research grants may be waived on a case-by-case basis

Authors are encouraged to consult the “For Authors” page for the most up-to-date fee structure and payment procedures.

8. Identification and Handling of Research Misconduct

The journal adheres to the ethical standards outlined in the Research Ethics Code of the Korean Association for Behavior Analysis. In cases of suspected misconduct—such as fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, duplicate submission, unethical authorship, or citation manipulation—the editorial board conducts a thorough and confidential investigation. This includes initial screening, formal inquiry, communication with all involved parties, and final resolution. If misconduct is confirmed, appropriate corrective actions will be taken, which may include article retraction, author notification, institutional reporting, or public statements.

9. Research and Publication Ethics

JBAS is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and adheres to the COPE Core Practices. Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to observe principles of integrity, accountability, transparency, and objectivity.

Ethical policies include:

  • Proper authorship and contributorship practices
  • Declaration of conflicts of interest
  • Data availability and transparency
  • Ethical approval for human or animal research
  • Procedures for post-publication discussions and corrections

Full guidelines are outlined on the “For Authors” page.

10. Open Access Policy

All articles in JBAS are published as Open Access, immediately available to read, download, and share without any financial or technical barriers. The journal does not charge subscription or access fees. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 License, ensuring that scholarly content remains freely accessible for educational and research purposes.

11. Archiving and Content Preservation

To ensure long-term preservation of its scholarly content, JBAS implements multiple archiving strategies:

Full-text articles and abstracts are available at www.journal-bas.com

Indexed and archived in the Korea Citation Index (KCI) (https://kci.go.kr)

Archived at the National Library of Korea (https://nl.go.kr) These measures ensure that content remains available even in the event of technical or operational disruptions.

12. Revenue Sources

The journal operates under a nonprofit model and is financially supported by:

The Korean Association for Behavior Analysis (KABA)

The National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF)

The Ministry of Education, Republic of Korea

These funding sources are independent of editorial decision-making and have no influence on peer review or publication processes.

13. Advertising Policy

Currently, JBAS does not accept commercial advertising. Should the journal consider accepting advertisements in the future, it will establish a formal advertising policy ensuring that:

Ads are clearly distinguished from editorial content

No influence on editorial decisions is permitted

Only content-relevant, appropriate, and ethical advertisements are considered

14. Direct Marketing

The journal promotes its activities through the official website, professional societies, and conference networks. Invitations for manuscript submissions are selectively extended to researchers, presenters at conferences, and workshop participants whose work aligns with the journal’s aims and scope. JBAS ensures that all marketing communications are professional, targeted, and non-intrusive.

Closing Statement

The Journal of Behavior Analysis and Support remains committed to transparency, integrity, and the advancement of scholarly communication in the field of behavior analysis. We continuously review and enhance our editorial and operational practices in alignment with international standards and ethical expectations.
